Interesting facts are revealed about the average person who enjoys gambling in Las Vegas. With nearly 40 million gambling visitors each year, the city's tourist department conducts a survey to identify the common traits of the gambler. Gambling in Las Vegas is a cultural icon. No other city in the world is associated with gambling like Las Vegas is. The very name of the city conjures up images of slot machines, neon lights and 24 hour a day entertainment. Over 38 million people visit Las Vegas annually to try their luck at gambling and the city's tourist department conducts a survey every year to identify the average Vegas gambler. In 2005, the average age of the gambler decreased, while the amount each gambler spent increased.
While the average age of the gambling public was 49 last year, this number has dropped to 47. Surveyors are interested to see whether these numbers represent a trend. Another interesting change in the gambling world is the fact that expenditure increased from $545 per person from last year, to $627. This fact might be put down to the fact that costs have generally increased in the gambling capital of the world. Of the nearly 40 million people who visit Las Vegas each year, 83% are white, 7% are Hispanic, 5% Asian and 4% Black. These are also interesting facts for the marketing industry that needs to know who to target in its promotions and advertising campaigns.
The survey revealed that the most popular gambling game, not surprisingly, was slots, with nearly 60% of the visitors playing them. Gambling at blackjack also increased, while craps showed a decrease in popularity
